First international rehabilitation conference hosted by Tawam Hospital held in Al Ain

The first international rehabilitation conference titled ‘Modern Rehabilitation: The Holistic Approach’, hosted by Tawam Hospital, in affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine, concluded today (Thursday, November 22, 2007) at the Intercontinental Hotel, Al Ain. The two-day conference attracted around 300 academics, therapists, rehabilitation specialists, nurses, and allied health and medical students.    
 
A host of internationally renowned keynote speakers from the USA, South Africa, Europe and the UAE addressed the gathering and enlightened the audience about recent advances in rehabilitation and patient care.

The conference  high light on topics such as ‘Latest Trends in Rehabilitation’, ‘Reintegration into the Community’, ‘Migrant Workers: issues to consider for effective rehabilitation practice’, ‘Ethical and Cultural Issues in Rehabilitation’, ‘Cancer Rehabilitation’, ‘Seating and Positioning’, ‘Motion Analysis’, and ‘Pediatric Rehabilitation’.      
 
The main speakers at the conference included Dr. Jeffrey Palmer from Johns Hopkins Hospital; Dr. James Christensen, Director of Pediatric Rehabilitation and a research scientist at the Kennedy Krieger Institute; Dr. Samuel Mayer, Physician Advisor, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Johns Hopkins Hospital; Dr. Marcelo Rivano-Fischer, Chairman of Department of Rehabilitation, Lund University Hospital, Sweden; Dr. Steven Matarelli, Chief Clinical Officer of Tawam Hospital/ Johns Hopkins Medicine, among others.
