German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer may decide to postpone his Middle East trip, scheduled to begin Monday, to focus on efforts to persuade Parliament to allow German troops to be sent to Macedonia, the foreign ministry said Thursday.

Fischer is due to travel to Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt and the Palestinian territories during the week-long tour aimed at calming the latest Palestinian uprising against 34 years of Israeli military occupation.

The trip "is still under preparation," said a foreign ministry spokesman, but "a postponement is possible," AFP quoted him as saying.

Fischer's tour was announced last week by orders of Chancellor Gerhard Shroeder, earlier reports said - Albawaba.com
