GMC Acadia Earns IIHS Top Safety Pick Award

GMC Acadia and forthcoming Chevrolet Traverse garner high marks from automotive and safety experts

The highly acclaimed GMC Acadia has added the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) Top Safety Pick 2008 to its growing list of accolades.

This significant safety award results from the GMC Acadia meeting the Institute's highest rating for performance in its demanding front, side and rear impacts in addition to providing standard Stabilitrak, an advanced electronic stability control system. The IIHS test results also apply to the GMC Acadia's sister vehicles, including the Chevrolet Traverse.

"The Acadia aced our front, side, and rear crash tests," says Institute president Adrian Lund in a press release issued out of Detroit. "While affording buyers state-of-the-art crash protection, the Acadia also includes standard electronic stability control, which safety research shows can help keep drivers out of some crashes altogether."

The GMC Acadia has taken the marketplace by storm one year after its arrival in the Middle East, it is already established among General Motors’ top ten best-sellers in the region, and was last year named “2007 Best Crossover” by Middle East Car magazine.  This popular luxury crossover SUV provides the capability of an SUV and the smooth ride and handling of a Sedan, along with a continuous safety system that helps protect passengers before, during and after a crash.

"Along with the IIHS Top Safety Pick, the 2009 GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, and Saturn Outlook have all received the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program's (NCAP) highest rating of 5-stars for both the driver and front passenger in the frontal crash test, and for the driver and rear passenger in the side test."
