ALBAWABA - According to Israeli media, terrorists who entered Israel from Jordan earlier today carried out a shooting incident near the Dead Sea that left two troops wounded.
The incident took place around 3 kilometers from the Israeli town of Eliot, south of the Dead Sea, according to Israeli Army Radio.
Al Jazeera said that the assault was carried out by three people. Two of the terrorists were shot and killed by Israeli soldiers, while the third escaped back into Jordan.
According to Israel's Channel 12, security services are looking into whether the terrorists were posing as Jordanian troops by donning military attire.
Israeli Army Radio said locals should stay inside till further notice and verified that no civilians were hurt in the incident.
"We identified several armed individuals who crossed the border from Jordan into the southern Dead Sea area," the Israeli military said in a statement.
Israeli troops are now conducting a thorough examination of the shooting scene. The military believes more gunmen may have entered from Jordan, according to a report in the Yedioth Ahronoth daily.
