ALBAWABA - Amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict that captures global attention, the southern waters of the Red Sea experienced a sudden surge in tension.

Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels targeted a cargo ship belonging to Denmark-based Maersk with four of their vessels. In a responsive move to distress signals, US Navy helicopters intervened, obliterating three Houthi boats, compelling the fourth to retreat.

The Iran-backed Houthi militia, notorious for its recent assaults on cargo ships in the Red Sea, heightened tensions with a brazen attack today. Three out of the four boats deployed by the Houthis in their assault on a Maersk cargo vessel were decimated by swift action from US Navy helicopters, prompted by the urgent calls for help.

While global attention remains riveted on the Israel-Hamas conflict, the Red Sea witnessed a surge in hostilities. The Houthi rebels, with Iran's backing, executed an attack on a Maersk cargo ship, a Danish-owned company, in the Red Sea. The assault involved a quartet of Houthi vessels, prompting a rapid response from the US to assist the distressed cargo ship.

US Navy helicopters dispatched from the USS Eisenhower and USS Gravely swiftly moved to counter the Houthi boats. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that the helicopters successfully sank three out of the four Houthi boats, leaving no survivors. The fourth boat managed to evade destruction, according to official statements.

Despite the intense confrontation, the crew aboard the targeted cargo ship emerged unharmed. Maersk responded to the incident by declaring a temporary closure of the Red Sea for the next 48 hours.

While Israel's actions against civilians in Palestine continue to unfold, the Houthi rebels in Yemen have noticeably escalated their attacks on cargo ships navigating the Red Sea in recent times.
