ALBAWABA - According to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and VP Mahmood Qureshi have been sentenced to 10 years in jail, in the state secrets case which may be challenged in higher court.

"Former prime minister Imran Khan and PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) vice-president Qureshi have been sentenced to 10 years each inside a prison in the cypher case," a spokesman for the party told AFP.

The case is based on how the two handled a so-called "cypher" sent by Pakistan's ambassador to the United States, which claimed Washington was involved in a plot to remove Khan from office in 2022.

Millions of people will go to the polls in less than two weeks, in a campaign marred by allegations of vote rigging and heavy suppression of Khan's party.
