Iran's President Rouhani aims to hold 'free' parliamentary elections next year

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani has said that his government hopes to hold "free" parliamentary elections in 2016, AFP reported Iran's official IRNA news agency as saying.

Iranians will head to the polls next year on February 26 to vote for a new parliament. At the same time elections for the Assembly of Experts, who is in charge of supervising and dismissing the supreme leader, will be held.

"The success of the government to is to hold free, healthy and competitive elections," President Rouhani said in a speech on Saturday. 

Rouhani stated that politicians should be allowed to speak freely in public, regardless of their views.
