ALBAWABA- Iran's Supreme National Security Council has authorized the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to take direct action against any approaching units near the Durra oil field, located between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The decision came during a meeting where the Council discussed the field situated within Kuwait's territorial waters but disputed in the submerged region between the two nations.

According to Khaleej online, the Revolutionary Guard will form special forces to protect the Iranian Ministry of Oil's planned facilities in the field, referred to as "Arash." The Supreme National Security Council sanctioned these forces to respond swiftly to any intrusions in the region, which Iran considers part of its territorial boundaries, sending a strong message that Tehran will not compromise on the matter.

Situated in the Arabian Gulf's shared economic activity zone between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, the Durra field's territorial boundaries are a contentious matter. While Iran asserts its borders based on the continental shelf and the law of open seas, Kuwait insists on defining Iran's boundaries according to its land borders and the law of enclosed seas.

Recently, Kuwait reaffirmed its exclusive rights to the oil field, alongside Saudi Arabia, despite Iran's claims to a portion of it. The spotlight on the Durra field, renowned for its substantial gas and oil resources, arose from mutual statements made by Iran, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia, each vying for ownership and investment rights in the submerged wealth.
