Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini on Sunday confirmed expulsion of a German diplomat from Iran. According to IRNA, he told reporters that the authorities have come to the conclusion that the German national was involved in "undiplomatic activities."
The expulsion of the diplomat came after the German weekly Der Spiegel reported that Germany had expelled an Iranian consular attaché in July.
On American President George W Bush's visit to the region, Hosseini said the goal of the US officials' numerous trips to the region is to make up for their past failures. "The US authorities are trying to accelerate the process of compromise, despite all opposition, in the region," he added.
As Bush had said, he was to control certain regional policies and the regional trips were aimed at interfering in domestic affairs of the regional states, Hosseini reiterated. As to the next round of Iran-US talks on Iraq, he said, "Tehran is not opposed to the talks. We have announced our views to the Iraqi side and are waiting for their response." "The US commitment to the outcome of the talks tops Iran's considerations," Hosseini noted.
