Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on Saturday backed the petrol rationing and called it a brave action on part of the government. In a meeting with members of the cabinet and the executive directors from throughout the country, Khamenei noted that the ninth government has acted bravely in line with the objectives and values of the Islamic Revolution.

According to IRNA, he also appreciated strong resolve of the government and the executive body to advance the priorities set in the 20-Year Strategy Plan for Economic, Social and Cultural Development.

It should be mentioned that the introduction of the petrol rationing earlier this week sparked riots in major Iranian cities. According to some reports, rioters torched gasoline stations and other state-owned facilities.
