Iraqi PM meets Biden, aims for full partnership, shifting from military ties with US

ALBAWABA- Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, arrived at the White House for talks with US President Joe Biden amidst heightened tensions in the Middle East. 

During the meeting, the Iraqi Prime Minister expressed the country's aim to transition from a military relationship to a full partnership with the United States.

 President Biden reiterated the US commitment to safeguarding American interests and those of its partners in the region, including Iraq.

The scheduled visit is expected to address the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq in light of increased offensive attacks on US forces in Iraq and Syria, particularly following recent events such as the Al-Aqsa Flood on October 7 and the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

 At the top of their agenda is the discussion of escalating tensions in the Middle East, notably the Iranian retaliation to the Israeli attack on the Iranian diplomatic mission in Syria, resulting in the killing of top Iranian commanders.

President Biden emphasized the US commitment to Israel's security while also seeking to reach a ceasefire in Gaza to prevent further escalation of conflict.
