A Palestinian journalist working for the Reuters news agency has been arrested for a period of two weeks by Israeli forces in the Palestinian territories, according to AP.
23-year-old Jussry al-Jamal, a Reuters television cameraman, was detained on April 30th in the West Bank city of Hebron as he was filming close to a local hospital.
Reuters has repeatedly protested his detention, however al-Jamal remained in custody of Israeli forces Monday.
Meanwhile, the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists has also protested his detention, and described how he was handcuffed, blindfolded and forced to spend the night in an outdoor holding area without food and water.
Israel has refused to disclose the charges against al-Jamal or where he is being detained, Reuters has reported. Reuters declined to comment Monday on the detention.
The Israeli army, for its part, said al-Jamal was being held by Israel's Shin Bet security service. A government spokesman did not immediately return a call for comment.
Several other Palestinian journalists were detained during Israel's six-week incursion into Palestinian-controlled areas, which began on March 29th.
The Foreign Press Association of Israel has complained to the government about the harassment of Palestinian journalists working for the foreign media and demanded that any charges against those arrested be made public. (Albawaba.com)
