Israeli soldiers raided the Shufat refugee camp in occupied East Jerusalem before dawn, Wednesday, detaining 20 Palestinians, according to official Palestinian Authority (PA)-owned Wafa news agency.
Wafa reported Israeli soldiers raided houses in the camp, “terrorizing women and children who were awakened at the sound of soldiers breaking into their homes.”
The soldiers reportedly ransacked several homes during the raid, causing much material damage.
Twenty camp residents, who remained unidentified, were arrested, according to Wafa.
Israeli search and detention raids are a nightly occurrence in Palestinian cities, towns, and refugee camps across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
According to prisoners rights group Addameer, there were 6,119 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails as of February.
Among those, 550 are residents of East Jerusalem.
