ALBAWABA- Thousands of protestors gather in Harehills, Leeds, smashing police vehicles and attacking officers. Migrant communities are allegedly reported of rioting in the city of Leeds tonight.
A police car has been flipped over and a bus set alight after disorder broke out in Harehills, Leeds. West Yorkshire Police said officers were initially called to reports of a disturbance at an address in Luxor Street at about 17:00 BST, but further "pockets of disorder" have since erupted.
Social media footage shows large crowds on the streets, a bus on fire, and a police car under attack before being overturned. Another video shows a shop completely burnt out near the Compton Centre.
Home Secretary and West Yorkshire MP Yvette Cooper expressed her shock and dismay, stating, "I am appalled at the shocking scenes and attacks on police vehicles and public transport in Leeds tonight. Disorder of this nature has no place in our society."
In an earlier statement, police reported no injuries but confirmed several roads have been closed, advising people to avoid the area. The disturbance involved some agency workers and children, which led to their removal to a safe place as more people began to gather, escalating the situation.
A police spokesperson said, "More officers have been deployed to the area to assist with the management of this incident."
The violence has prompted a significant police response, yet the situation remains tense as the unrest continues to spread through the streets of Leeds.
