The media center for Operation “Al-Banyan al-Marsous” announced that Libyan forces seized a militant lab in Sirte used for building bombs.
According to RT Arabic, the media center posted on its official Facebook page on Sunday, announcing the capture of the lab and promising to post pictures of the location at a later date.
Sirte is Daesh's stronghold in Libya. The militant group has conducted multiple bombings around the country in the past two months.
On June 14, a Daesh suicide bombing killed two in Sirte. Three days later, a suicide car bomb killed ten Libyan policemen at a checkpoint in Misrata. Later in the month, a car bomb in Benghazi killed four outside of a hospital.
The media center released few details about the bomb-building facility, but indicated it was a large operation that will have significant impact as Libyan forces move forward in Sirte.
Daesh has not released a statement confirming the capture of their facility.
US-backed Libyan forces and independent Libyan militias have advanced on Daesh positions in Misrata and Sirte in recent weeks.
Through heavy airstrikes and street-by-street artillery, Libyan forces have captured multiple residential neighborhoods on the outskirts of Sirte. The groups continue to advance into the city.
