Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher has said that if any Egyptian terrorists linked with the Al Qaeda network are arrested while trying to cross into Pakistan from Afghanistan “they should be immediately repatriated to Egypt,” according to official sources.

The minister, who flew to Pakistan on Monday for an unscheduled daylong visit, met Pakistani Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar and delivered to President Pervez Musharraf a letter from Mubarak on the current conditions in Afghanistan and other issues of mutual interest.

“The message is about the developments in the region,” said Maher.

The visiting minister discussed with Musharraf the "friendly ties" between the two countries and exchanged views on ways of strengthening bilateral relations in various fields.

In an official statement, Maher said that his visit to Pakistan aimed to improve “Egyptian- Pakistani ties.”

The Arabic News quoted Maher as saying that he went to Pakistan with a message of friendship and support from Cairo.

Addressing the current conditions in Afghanistan and efforts to form a broad-based government following the collapse of the Taliban, Maher expressed hope that peace would prevail in the Muslim country, the report said – Albawaba.com
