A Malaysian delegation comprising information technology heads from various ministries and departments of the Malaysian government recently visited Dubai to gain first hand information about the digital transformation in the emirate and benefit from Dubai eGovernment’s experience. The delegation commended the advances made by Dubai in the recent years with regard to the provision of electronic services and creation of a robust eGovernance system.
Salem Al Shair, eServices Director, Dubai eGovernment, who welcomed the Malaysian delegation, shed light on the challenges overcome by Dubai eGovernment during the process of implementing an effective system of electronic governance. The visit by the Malaysian delegation is part of Dubai eGovernment’s ongoing program to enlighten delegates from visiting countries on the full scope of e-Governance.
“Dubai eGovernment has always been keen on sharing its experience and knowledge with other governments around the world, and we are glad to have got this opportunity to exchange views with the Malaysian government, who have developed an efficient eGovernance infrastructure over the years,” said Al Shair.
“IT spending by the Malaysian government has been rising steadily year-on-year, which has reflected positively on the overall ICT industry in the country and also on the progress of eGovernance initiatives. We are confident that this visit by senior decision makers from the Malaysian government will provide further boost to Malaysia’s eGovernance efforts,” he added.
Wan Mohd Dolah, Director, ICT Security, Malaysian Administrative and Management Planning Unit, said, “We are highly impressed with the eGovernance implementation in Dubai. It is an honour for us to learn from Dubai eGovernment’s experience, and we are looking forward to further cooperation.”
Dubai eGovernment officials also made a presentation to the visiting Malaysian delegation on the strategies, plans, projects and future aims of Dubai eGovernment, as well as the steps to be taken in this domain to attain a full eGovernment status.
The delegation was also involved in various discussions with the Dubai eGovernment team, primarily to facilitate an exchange of experiences and information which would help in adding new dimensions to Malaysia’s eGovernance infrastructure.
Through Dubai eGovernment’s comprehensive web portal, citizens, residents, visitors and business enterprises can access more than 2,000 electronic services, including payment of Municipality fees, applying for visas for friends and relatives, renewing health cards, company registration, among others.
