Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, who is preparing to make his debut on the diplomatic stage, called on the allies of Syria, Russia and China, to help the ouster President Bashar al-Assad. "It is now time to stop the bloodshed and for the Syrian people to regain its full rights. The regime that kills its people must disappear from the scene, "Morsi said as he prepares to travel this weeks to China and Iran, two states together with Russia, which have been opposing calls from Western countries and some Arab countries to end the regime of Bashar al Assad.

Morsi also said he has a "balanced" foreign policy. Without mentioning it by name the Egyptian leader guaranteed Israel he would respect the peace treaty between the two countries. "Egypt is now a civilian country (... ) with a democratic, constitutional and modern society, "he told Reuters. "International relations between all countries are open and they must be based on the concept of balance. We are hostile to noone but we are to defend our interests."
