National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) won the 2009 Best Investors Relations Company Award for UAE listed companies from the Middle East Investor Relations Society.

NBAD emerged as the winner following its nomination along with five other UAE companies that had been nominated for the award. It was voted as the best in a survey of fund managers and analysts conducted by Thomson Reuters' Extel Surveys, which was commissioned by Middle East Investor Relations Society.

“We are delighted that National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) has been awarded the Best Investors Relations Company Award” said Mr. Michael Tomalin, NBAD’s Group Chief Executive.

“We consider this award to be a valuable recognition of NBAD’s commitment to the principles of transparency and corporate governance. Successive Boards of Directors have always ensured that the bank adhered to the highest standards of corporate governance and corporate responsibility by translating their intent into a regimen of exemplary practices,” he added.

Mr. Tomalin praised the Middle East Investor Relations Society and other organizations for promoting greater transparency, corporate governance and investor relations.

“The UAE, its economy and markets continue to advance in global significance and the country has become a major centre of trade and commerce. Therefore, it is fundamental that the standards of corporate governance should be of a world-class level, something we strive for here at NBAD,” said Ms. Amelia Soares, Head of Investor Relations and Corporate Affairs at NBAD.

“The UAE in particular has advanced in leaps and bounds in the past decade to raise its disclosure levels to world-class reporting standards, and we look forward to witness increased levels of disclosure from the region’s listed companies,” she added.

“We appreciate Middle East Investor Relations Society and all other organizations that recognize the achievements of companies toward this end and tirelessly continue to promote improved transparency and investors relations in the region” said Ms. Soares.

The Investor Relations function at NBAD aligns itself with the vision of the Bank to be Number One in all its endeavors.

“Investor Relations is a young discipline in the Middle East. The two fundamental principles of investor relations are transparency and disclosure without which no IR can function and we are proud of the advances that NBAD has made in this regard. However, the awards will be more challenging and exciting in the future as companies become more transparent and competitive in the field of investor relations,” she explained.

“Having received this prestigious award - the first ever in the Middle East - we are committed to delivering to the best of our abilities and retaining this title in the future” Ms. Soares concluded.

Mr. Abhishek Kumat, from Investor Relations Department at NBAD, accepted the award on behalf of the bank.
