Preparation are underway for a new information technology system that will be responsible for transferring information between government departments and providing them with internet access in the Emirati city of Dubai, reported the Gulf News on Wednesday.

The project will carried out by the Dubai E-Government Group, said the paper.

The executive members of Dubai E-Government group have begun building the Government Information Network (GIN) that will be the foundation for all inter-departmental electronic communications.

The GIN will be one of the most advanced information networks worldwide, a spokesman for the group said Tuesday.

Thani Al Zaffeen, member of the E-government project group's executive team and head of information resources planning at Dubai ruler's court department, stressed that GIN was fundamental to the E-Government project, since it supported the flow of government information and services.

“The primary function of this network is to enhance electronic transmissions, and remove the duplication of effort that often occurs across the networks of government departments,” he said.

He added that there were departments connected to one another through various channels, which would be unified through this effort – Albawaba.com
