Oman Signs Two Agreements to Expand GSM Network

Oman signed on Sunday two separate agreements at the cost of RO12.6 million ($32.7 million) to expand GSM service in several areas of the Gulf state, reported the official Omani News Agency (ONA). 

The first agreement, signed with Ericsson, covers the installation of 91 new GSM stations in Muscat governorate and increasing traffic channels in 47 other stations to help serve the expected increase in the number of GSM and international mobile telephone prepaid card services subscribers.  

The total capacity of GSM network in the governorate will be able to serve 215,000 subscribers, an increase of 74,000 subscribers. 

The second deal, went to Motorolla, said the agency. Envisaged is the installation of 22 additional GSM stations and an increase in the number of traffic channels and coverage in Musandam governorate and Batinah region. 

The works will be completed no more than 18 months from the date of signing the agreements, ONA said – Albawaba.com
