Two talented orphans from Jordan’s Al Baqa’a refugee camp have been awarded scholarships from Hertz Jordan to assist them in achieving a university education.
Hala Abdullah Abdul Hadi (18) and Suha Jamal Abdul Majeed Matar (18) recently passed their secondary government exams with over 80 per cent of the total mark and were nominated for the scholarships by Jordan’s Yarmouk Club.
Both students attended the Baqa’a Secondary High School for Girls. Hala will now attend Al-Hashemieh University in the college of education, and Suha will attend the school of psychology at the University of Jordan. They will receive approximately $15,000 each per year in financial aid from Hertz-Jordan.
The Hertz Jordan scholarship scheme provides assistance to two orphaned students every year. Recipients must pass their secondary school exams with 80 per cent of the total marks and be accepted by a recognised local government university.
The Yarmouk Club, which recommends students for the scholarship scheme is actively involved in civic activities at the Baqa’a refugee camp. It provides education, healthcare, sports and social activities for more than 100 orphan children.
Najati Shakshir, General Manager of Hertz Jordan, said: “It is with great pleasure that we make the scholarship awards to Hala and Suha who are both extremely deserving recipients.”
Hertz Jordan offers a comprehensive range of car rental and leasing services from ten branches in Jordan. There are now six branches in Amman, following the opening of a new branch in the city in May, with the others located in Petra, Aqaba and at the Dead Sea. The company is continuing to expand and upgrade its car rental fleet and is also planning to widen its network of branches across the Kingdom still further.
