Poland's Foreign Minister Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz arrived in the Islamic Republic of Iran on Saturday for talks aimed at easing the way for the deployment of a Polish-led force slated to take responsibility for a part of Iraq.
Poland has been given responsibility for a sector in the mainly-Shiite Muslim south of the country between Basra and Baghdad in the framework of a stabilization force being put in place by the US and Britain.
"We are conscious of the links between Iran and this part of Iraq," Cimoszewicz told reporters upon his arrival in Tehran. "We will pose questions related to this and raise the problems of border control."
"We are also conscious that the relations between the United States and Iran are not so good, and that Europe is concerned over Iran's nuclear program," he added, according to AFP. "That will also be the subject of our discussions."
Cimoszewicz is lined up for talks with his Iranian counterpart Kamal Kharazi and President Mohammad Khatami. (Albawaba.com)
