All vehicles and people entering Poland will be subjected to strict disinfection procedures to prevent the spread of foot and mouth disease, veterinary officials said Friday.
Vehicles and people entering the country via its western and southern borders will have to cross disinfectant mats.
Customs officials have also been ordered to confiscate all meat and dairy products brought in by travelers.
Poland closed its borders Tuesday to all EU livestock products to prevent the spread of foot and mouth disease currently afflicting Britain.
Livestock imports were also halted from Norway, Switzerland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Estonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Iceland, Slovenia and Lichtenstein.
Poland halted imports of livestock products from Britain and Northern Ireland on February 22.
Imports of cattle and beef products had earlier been halted from 12 European countries over fears of mad cow disease – WARSAW (AFP)
