Egyptian president, Mohamed Morsi, is considering handing over full control of Port Said city to the military, according to officials speaking to AP news agency.
The decision follows days of clashes between protestors and police in the restive city, leaving at least six dead and hundreds injured since Sunday.
Officials say Morsi met on Tuesday with military officers to discuss giving the military control over the situation instead of the police, who have been accused of using excessive force.
Egypt's president decided to retire the head of the military 'SCAF' council, soon after taking power, following protests in the capital and elsewhere about the level of control that the military had over the country.
