Iran must comply with demands from UN nuclear inspectors seeking to verify that Tehran is not trying to develop nuclear weapons, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday.

"Iran must comply with all IAEA demands," Putin said in comments to foreign media executives in Moscow.

According to AFP, Putin said his country had forwarded a message to this effect to Tehran, and added that believed Iran's assurances that it was not trying to develop nuclear weapons.

"I have confidence in this, but foreign and international organizations must also be convinced," Putin said.

In Tehran, senior cleric Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani said on Friday Iran would never pursue nuclear weapons nor any weapons of mass destruction.

"The enemies are trying to deprive us from a legal and legitimate right. All such measures are against [international] laws and are merely a deceit by the White House," he said. (albawaba.com)
