ALBAWABA- Qatar hosted a high-level diplomatic meeting today, bringing together foreign ministers from Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the UAE, along with Palestinian and U.S. representatives, to discuss the reconstruction of Gaza and efforts to stabilize the region.

The Arab ministers presented a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Gaza, approved during the Arab League summit in Cairo on March 4.

They also agreed with the U.S. envoy to continue consultations on the plan, which aims to rebuild the war-torn enclave while maintaining Palestinian sovereignty.

According to a statement by the Qatari Ministry of External Affairs, the ministers underscored the urgent need to solidify the ceasefire in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, emphasizing the importance of a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution.

Notably, the meeting followed an emergency Arab League summit in Cairo on Tuesday, March 4, where leaders strongly opposed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal to relocate 1.7 million displaced Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan.

Trump’s plan, first floated on February 5, was widely condemned by Arab nations as a threat to their sovereignty and regional stability.

In response, Egypt put forward a detailed reconstruction plan designed to stabilize Gaza while ensuring displaced Palestinians remain in their homeland.

The plan, obtained by Reuters, includes a governance mission to oversee humanitarian aid and rebuilding efforts, temporarily replacing Hamas’ administration. It also proposes an International Stabilization Force composed of Arab states to maintain security, with oversight from a coalition including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the U.S., U.K., EU, and other international partners.

Additionally, the plan suggests temporary housing solutions for displaced Palestinians while rubble removal and reconstruction efforts progress.

Arab leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a diplomatic path that prioritizes Palestinian sovereignty, regional security, and a long-term political solution to the crisis.
