The Ramadi police chief was sacked by Iraq's interior minister Wednesday after security forces failed to stop Daesh from overtaking the city, AFP reports

Major General Hadi al-Rzayej will replace Kadhim al-Fahdawi and is tasked with the responsibility of "reorganising the Anbar and Ramadi police."

On Sunday Daesh took full control of Ramadi, which serves as the Anbar provincial capital, after three days of intense fighting.

Over 500 people were killed in the clashes, including civilians, and at least 25,000 residents fled the city.
