Russia said Saturday it had thwarted two consecutive attempts by rebels in Chechnya to blow up a railway bridge over a river in the Gudermes district of the breakaway Caucasus republic, Interfax news agency said.

Russian federal forces discovered a bomb containing two kilograms of dynamite under the bridge over the Dzhalk river on Friday. It was removed and detonated elsewhere, the report said.

A second device containing five artillery shells and a detonator was found in the same area hours later and was also removed and disarmed, Interfax said quoting the Russian military command in the region -- Moscow, (AFP)
