Syrian government warplanes striked rebel-held areas southeast of Damascus Monday, according to AFP.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the warplanes targeted the suburb of Mleha, located near the pro-regime stronghold Jaramana.
Opposition fighters sieged the former government checkpoint in the town earlier that day after the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Nusra Front detonated an explosive car bomb nearby.
While government forces renewed airstrikes in Mleha, other regime troops continued their "onslaught" on Moadamiyet al-Sham southwest of Damascus. The town has recently captured global attention with reports circulating about devastating humanitarian conditions developing in the area due to clashes that have prevented aid and supplies from being delivered.
Throughout the country, President Bashar al-Assad's forces sieges have caused severe food shortages and acute malnutrition.
More than 115,000 people have been killed in Syria's war since March 2011.
