Syrian opposition members will meet with several foreign ministers attending the G8 summit in London on Wednesday, AFP reported.
British Foreign Secretary William Hague confirmed that he would meet rebel representatives, as did US Secretary of State John Kerry. Hague met with Syrian National Coalition Prime Minister Ghassan Hitto on Tuesday to discuss the possibility of arming rebel groups in Syria.
“In the two days before the G8 meeting, today and tomorrow, I have invited Syrian opposition leaders, leaders of the National Coalition to London. I met them this morning,” Hague told reporters in the British capital.
“They will be able to meet with some of the G8 foreign ministers tomorrow before the G8 fully gathers. Again I will be joining and convening some of those meetings to discuss the urgent humanitarian needs and the urgent need for a political and diplomatic breakthrough on Syria.”
SNC Vice-Presidents George Sabra and Soheir Atassi were the other rebel leaders to meet with Hague on Tuesday.
Both France and Britain have previously stated a desire to lift an EU arms embargo on Syria, to open a weapons supply route to approved rebel groups but the EU remains opposed to such a move.
