Syrian government forces clashed with opposition fighters along the Jordanian border Wednesday in a wrestle for control of the Jaber, or Nasib, border crossing, the AFP reported.
A coalition of opposition forces attempted to seize the border crossing, located near Deraa, from Syrian government control, according to the British-based monitoring group, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
"Fierce fighting over the control of the Nasib border crossing with Jordan erupted early this morning between Islamists and rebels and regime forces, with the rebels putting the crossing under siege," the activist group told AFP.
Opposition forces have escalated a campaign to reclaim the southern distict of Deraa from regime forces and militias.
On March 25th, Syrian rebels claimed control of the the historical town of Bosra al-Sham, located near the Jordanian border, after fierce clashes with the Syrian government, backed by Hezbollah and Iranian fighters.
