Two killed in attempt to assassinate Baghdad governor as US soldier dies

Gunmen opened fire on the Baghdad governor's convoy seconds before a car bomb went off near the vehicles in Baghdad on Tuesday, the Interior Ministry stated.  

 

According to The AP, Gov. Ali al-Haidri survived the apparent assassination attempt in al-Adel neighborhood west Baghdad, said Ministry spokesman Col. Adnan Abdel Rahman. Three of his bodyguards were hurt in the attack. 

 

Two people were reported killed. 

 

Earlier, a roadside bomb in Baghdad area late on Monday killed one US soldier and wounded another, the US military said on Tuesday. (albawaba.com)
