ALBAWABA - The British Foreign Secretary announced on Monday that a drone hit the runway of the British base in Cyprus.
The UK's Royal Air Force base of Akrotiri in Cyprus was subjected to an Iranian drone attack overnight, the island’s president and the British Ministry of Defence revealed.
“All the competent services of the republic are on alert and in full operational readiness,” President Nikos Christodoulides said in a speech on Monday.
He also mentioned that the Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicle hit the base, causing minor damage. The incident took place at 12:03 a.m. (22:00 GMT).
According to sources, earlier, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the UK would allow the U.S. to use its bases to attack Iran.
This comes amid escalating tension in the Middle East and exchanged attacks between Iran, Israel and the United States after Tel Aviv announced the launch of an attack on Tehran with the assistance of Washington.
