Under the supervision of SCCI, Emax collaborates with Tawasol for Ramadan Charity Auction for education of underprivileged Sharjah orphans
Electronics retailer’s Sharjah store to donate proceeds to deserving orphans in support of local social empowerment initiatives
Emax, one of the largest electronics retail chains in the Gulf and a member of the Landmark Group, has announced that it will launch a charity drive in collaboration with Tawasol, a Sharjah-based integrated program dedicated to enabling deserving orphans to continue and complete their education. The 2008 Ramadan Charity Auction will accept bids for electronics products, with all auction proceeds to be donated to Tawasol.
The Auction will be held daily starting at 9 pm during the holy month of Ramadan at the Emax Big Box store located at King Faisal Street, Sharjah. Any customer can join in the bidding and help fund the schooling of deserving orphans registered with the Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation. Supervised by Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the Foundation encourages social responsibility from companies, institutions and businessmen so as to provide schooling for underprivileged youth and is under the patronage and guidance of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, the Ruler of Sharjah and Member of the Supreme Council.
Neelesh Bhatnagar, Emax CEO and Landmark Group Board Director, said: “It has been a year and a half since we opened our massive Sharjah store; from the beginning we have enjoyed strong support from the local population. This charity auction is thus an excellent way for us to give back to the emirate while invigorating the spirit of this year’s observance of Ramadan. Tawasol is a wonderful initiative by the SCCI and we are very proud to be associated with its cause.”
“The Landmark Group and our founder and Chairman, Mr. Micky Jagtiani, are both well-known for their support of various social causes. We are thus just keeping up with tradition. We wish Tawasol and SCCI the very best as they continue to promote their noble program and call on shoppers to participate in our unique charitable and shopping activities this Ramdan,” added Bhatnagar.
The Emax Sharjah store carries over 100,000 products and 300 brands and is part of the retailer’s plan to dominate electronic retailing in the Middle East. Emax will soon launch its 94,000-sq-ft flagship store at the Oasis Centre on Sheikh Zayed Road. An additional 40 stores covering a total retail area of 2.2 million sq. ft. are also being scheduled towards 2010. Emax also has mid-term plans of expanding its reach to the rapidly growing markets of India and China.
Tawasol was established in association with the SCCI, the University of Sharjah and Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation. Tawasol supports financially underprivileged orphan students in realizing their ambition and raising their morale, thus enabling them to make a positive difference to society.
“This high level of corporate involvement in social development serves as an example of how businesses can play a key role in effecting positive social change. We thank Emax for its generosity and urge other businesses within and outside of Sharjah to make similar contributions, especially to the underprivileged and the youth. We hope that the spirit of Ramadan in particular will influence the private sector to increase their participation in socially relevant initiatives,” concluded Hussain Al Mahmoudi, Director General, SCCI.
