UOWD experiences 40% increase in demand for specialist courses this summer

Dubai’s growing demand for skilled manpower has triggered a 40 per cent increase in demand for specialist courses, according to the summer intake figures released by the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD).
The University, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary in the UAE, has reported the biggest rise in demand for courses in Strategic Human Resource Management, Engineering Management and IT Management for the semester that began in May 2008.
“Over the past few years, UOWD been witnessing a gradual and significant increase in the number of students applying for specialist courses, but this year there has been a quantum jump, a clear indication of a buoyant economy and vibrant employment market,” said Raymi van der Spek, Vice President (Admin) of UOWD. “This is also a reflection of the high standards we follow to groom professionals for different sectors.”
“The response will spur us to develop more focused and customized programs in future, as students are increasingly looking at specialist courses that have good employment potential and offer attractive salaries. Recently we introduced three new bachelor programs – in International Business, Insurance and Property Development & Management and we working on adding new ones soon,” he added.
In keeping with Dubai’s growing stature as a popular destination for higher education, UOWD is offering high standard university education to its growing number of students of diverse nationalities. Apart from UAE residents and Emiratis, UOWD is attracting increasing numbers of students from the GCC region, Iran and the Indian subcontinent.
