US forces have captured the son of jailed Egyptian militant leader Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman along with 12 other Arab militants who were fighting with the Taliban militia, reports said, quoting London-based sources.

Ahmed Abdel Rahman, 35, alias Seif Allah, and 12 other "Afghan Arabs" were captured and transferred by a US airplane from the air base of Bagram near Kabul to an unnamed base in the Pacific, Hani Al Sabai of the Al Maqrizi Center for Historical Studies was quoted as saying by the Al Hayat daily on Tuesday.

According to Sabai, the Afghan Arabs had been tortured to reveal the location of suspected terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden, but did not say who had done the torturing nor by what means he came by his information, AFP said, citing a report published by the Arabic-language daily.

Northern Alliance forces captured Islam at his home in Kabul following the city's fall in mid-November.

A source in Egypt close to the Gamaa Islamiya group, of which Omar Abdel Rahman is the spiritual head, said earlier this month that Seif Allah had been captured.

Afghan Arabs are those Arabs who joined the 1980s CIA-backed jihad, or holy war, against the Soviets in Afghanistan and later made common cause with the Taliban and suspected terrorist mastermind bin Laden – Albawaba.com
