Men

Male bodies may very less in form compared to the female body, but nevertheless, variation does exists and it is always good to know on what to wear and what to avoid when choosing your outfit.

One thing to keep in mind when shopping for new clothes is that the fit of the garment is the ultimate test.  Don’t just look at the price tag or the brand of the garment.  The fit must be perfect and you should feel comfortable in wearing it.  Here are some tips on what to wear and what to please avoid.

The BIG and BULKY man

Buy clothes that fit.  The key here is to buy clothes that fit your body size.  Do not buy tight clothing as these will only draw attention to your flabby parts. Also very important is not to buy baggy clothes.  Many men believe they can hide their imperfections by layering and wearing baggy outfits.  This will only ensure that you look even bigger. The secret to looking slimmer is to choose clothes that are neither baggy nor tight.

Stay away from diagonal and horizontal stripes especially over the belly.  What you should wear is shirts or trousers with horizontal stripes.  This will draw the eyes downward, elongating your silhouette and therefore you will be conceived as looking thinner.  Horizontal stripes will do exactly the opposite.  Something you don’t want.  A nice pair of dark washed jeans with a striped shirt, t-shirt or golfer will do the trick.

Never ever tuck in your t-shirt – avoiding tucking in t-shirt when you abit bulky.  Stretched fabric will surely draw the attention to the places you don’t want. When it comes to shirts then it is good to make sure it is tucked in and please do wear that belt.

A shirt and trouser in two extremely contrasting colours should be avoided.  Something like black and white is not for you.  This will break you in half and have your large middle stand out.  Choose tops and bottoms that are identical or similar in colour to create a cleaner and leaner appearance.

Avoid turtleneck tops and rather go for the V-neck or crewneck t-shirts.  Also, choose your prints carefully as you don’t want to wear t-shirts or shirts with big overwhelming prints.  These kinds of prints draw the attention to the upper part of your body and focuses on your middle.

Please wear a belt.  A belt will bring in your waist line and will help you to appear slimmer.  Don’t over do it have it too tight and have that belly overhanging. You will feel when it is too tight.

The TALL and SKINNY

Don’t wear vertical stripes.  Choose horizontal stripes as women do not like a man who looks like he is withering away.  A single large stripe across the chest area will work wonders for you and will make your chest and shoulders look bigger and will make you look like you have the perfect physique.

Avoid the monochromatic look as wearing a solid colour from head to toe will make u look even thinner.  Break up your outfit by wearing two different colours.  It is always fun to play around with colour and you are allowed to.

Choose fitted shirts and keep away from the loose hanging ones.  Don’t go skintight as this will also have you looking anorexic so it is important to choose slim-cut shirts. Also make sure that you learn how to layer as this will bulk you up a bit.

If you are really tall then you shouldn’t wear round toe shoes as this will have u looking disproportional so to balance out your shape, rather focus on square toe shoes.

To the contrary, stay away form skinny jeans.  These are for the very thin model look-a-like women and are never flattering to men.  Rather stick to straight-cut or boot-cut jeans.  Throw away those baggy ones.

Always choose lighter colours as this will also help you to appear slightly larger.  Stick to whites, creams, light blues, grays and pastels.

The SHORT man

Vote for square-toe shoes.  If you are smaller then long shoes or really big ones won’t make you look professional but rather like a joker.  Square-toe shoes are the best for you. Dress boots with a little bit of a heel is good for a shorter man.  Don’t overdo it.  It will give you a little bit of height but also do remember to wear pants with a longer pant leg as to disguise the heel.

It is very important for you to consider men’s accessories.  A great necklace, tie or hat will keep peoples eyes focused on your face and away from your height.  A hat is mainly the best choice as this will provide the best illusion of and extra inch or two to your height.

Avoid really big prints.  On smaller bodies, giant prints will overwhelm.  So if you are smaller, then have fun with your wardrobe by keeping you prints small and proportional to your body.

Wear pants with a small rise.  The rise of your pants is the distance between the crotch and the waistband.  Smaller men should wear pants with a small rise which will visually elongate your legs and avoid your crotch and bottom to look baggy and empty.

Slimmer and medium-sized neckties are the best for you to wear. These will avoid overwhelming your frame.  Large ties should please be avoided.  If you are very short then it is best to look for ties that are both slimmer and shorter.
