Iraqi activist, lawyer Hamsa Jasem shot dead inside her car in Kut

ALBAWABA - Iraqis were shocked by the horrible killing of prominent human rights activist and lawyer, Hamsa Jasem, who was shot dead inside her car in Kut city.

Hamsa Jasem was shot seven times by known gunmen in the Al-A'amiriya neighborhood in Kut city, leading to her death immediately. 

Local media and social media activists unveiled that the deceased worked as a human rights employee and "National Security Advisor."

Iraqi authorities reported that security forces arrived at the crime scene after the incident and took the body to the forensic medicine department, while the perpetrators fled to an unknown location. 

The initial investigations have not yet identified the attackers or the motive for the crime, but a probe is still underway, sources revealed.

Iraqi Observatory for Human Rights shared a statement regarding the horrific crime, reading, "The observatory calls on the Iraqi authorities to open an urgent, transparent, and independent investigation into the assassination of human rights activist Hamsa Jassim, who was killed yesterday evening in the city of Kut by unknown gunmen."
