ALBAWABA - A leaked video from the luxurious wedding of Iranian senior adviser Ali Shamkhani's daughter has caused controversy on social media.

Ali Shamkhani was spotted in a special scene with his daughter on her wedding day as she was seen wearing a white dress and a bridal veil, while her father was wearing a black suit as they celebrated inside one of the luxury hotels in Iran.

The date of the wedding is unknown, but Iranian accounts say the scenes are from the ceremony, which reportedly took place in 2024. The leaked footage has sparked widespread controversy at the time over its exorbitant cost, while people in Iran are suffering economic crises.

Social media users criticized the huge extravagance of the party, as well as the return of morality police patrols to the streets, considering it evidence of discrimination and hypocrisy within the ruling regime, according to Iran International.

Comments on Iranian social media focused on the country's deteriorating economic situation and the suppression of Iranian women's freedom, particularly regarding the forced wearing of the hijab.

Some people online said, "Thousands of oppressed Iranian girls are being killed, arrested, and tortured because of the forced wearing of the hijab, while the leaders and their families do not believe in these laws at their celebrations. There is no reason to force their daughters, wives, and guests to wear the hijab."

Shamkhani had also served as the commander of both the IRGC Navy and the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy, and he is a senior adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

It is worth mentioning that Ali Shamkhani, who served as the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, survived an assassination attempt by Israel, but he was severely injured in the attack on June 13.
