A trending hashtag in Saudi Arabia has exposed screenshots from a private messaging group on Twitter, through which several accounts have shared photos of babies and kids along with explicit captions, expressing "sexual feelings" towards kids. The group is called "Pedophilia is a sexual orientation" in Arabic and has several accounts.

Translation: "Where are their parents? Are they not aware of these teenagers who attack females and say they love months-old babies?..."

In the group, several accounts shared generic photos of babies, adding very explicit comments to express their sexual interest in them.

Responding to the screenshots, many social media users took to the viral hashtag #قروب_البيدوفيليين (Arabic: The Pedophiles' Group) saying that "people who are often outraged by same-sex orientation have no shame describing pedophilia as one," suggesting that pedophiles are usually anti-LGBTQ.

Translation: "Most sick men deny such acts as if they're saints. These are kids. Whoever said the pedophilia is a sexual orientation? They attack LGBT people non-stop with such stupid acts. This is a sickness really."

Despite public outrage over the recently revealed content shared on the group, many social media users from Saudi Arabia highly doubted the authenticity of the group, saying that "no one could possibly have such feelings for babies," and that the group "is nothing but a stunt orchestrated by pro-freedoms groups who according to them, "try to portray the Saudi community in a negative light," naming feminists specifically.

Translation: "They refuse to believe it but if they type the first few letters of the word that describes them, this is what they get."

While this incident has faced a lot of push back from users who thought it's impossible for pedophiles to explicitly reveal themselves, this is not the first time that pedophiles in Saudi Arabia are the subject of online discussions, especially as the country has one of the highest numbers of internet users in the Middle East.

Last January, a snap chat video went viral as it briefly showed a sexual sticker during a film of a  little girl as she was doing her homework. Social media users back then expressed their concern that the pedophile who filmed the video could have been a family member who was allowed near the kid during the day.

Pedophilia continues to be a problem in many countries around the world, and the Middle East is no exception. This week, Egyptian police arrested a middle-aged man who had appeared in a viral video as he sexually assaulted three kids during daylight in Cairo.
