Every year, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving Day on the last Thursday of November, gathering with family and friends for a delicious meal, before recounting the many blessings they are grateful for in their lives. This year, everything about Thanksgiving seems to be different, starting from self-isolation celebrations and no parade day due to the pandemic, and a new political environment following crucial presidential elections earlier this month.

For this Thanksgiving, many Americans are taking to social media to express their gratitude and list things they are grateful for. Under the sarcastic hashtag #ThingsWeShouldThankTrumpFor, many Americans chose to thank the leaving president Donald Trump for a number of reasons. Notably, many of the people offering thanks to Trump said they were grateful for the many "hard" lessons they have learned during the four years he spent at the White House.

Some Americans highlighted the many political conversations sparked during the last four years of extreme political division in the country, which has engaged thousands if not millions of people in the political arena they might not have been very interested in, before Trump assumed office in 2017.

Others said that the many twists they have witnessed during the last four years of unconventional Trump governance had inspired tremendous comedy shows and numerous online jokes, memes, and funny videos that went viral online.

Some tweets also pointed at the many new trends that have emerged over the last four years, such as fact-checking media sources to avoid media inaccurate or biased reporting.

Earlier this month, Donald Trump lost his bid for a second term at the White House, when a majority of swing US states reported the majority of votes for his democratic opponent Joe Biden. However, the US President continues to reject the results of the elections as his legal team announced filing several lawsuits hoping to reverse the results so he can spend four more years at the White House.
