Lunar New Year is the beginning of a year whose months are coordinated by the cycles of the moon. The whole year may account to a purely lunar calendar or a lunisolar calendar.

However, some people have decided to spotlight on the pig costumes especially during the Lunar New Year parade in Hong Kong in order to mark the  "Year of the Pig" which is the last zodiac animal on the Chinese lunar calendar.
