Spain Marks Heaviest Snowfall in Decades

Published January 11th, 2021 - 08:32 GMT

Spanish officials have rushed to remove the heavy snow from the roads before a cold snap transforms them into icy death traps as this storm marked the toughest in decades.

Storm Filomena hit Spain leaving 3 dead as emergency services workers and army snowploughs stayed busy on Friday and Saturday.

Government workers worked on freeing 2,500 stuck drivers in their vehicles due to the huge fall.

The snowstorm was accompanied with major rainfall before moving to southern France, according to AFP.

The country's weather forecasters AEMET predicted heavy frost overnight Sunday in large parts of Spain.
