Qatar football association is seeking an injunction against German football official Theo Zwanziger

Qatar's football association is seeking an injunction at a Dusseldorf district court against German football official Theo Zwanziger, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) paper said Saturday.

The football association and the state of Qatar have accused Zwanziger of slander over a statement in which he referred to Qatar as a "cancerous growth on world football" in connection to their controversial hosting of the 2022 World Cup.

The 70-year-old Zwanziger has been a strong critic of world governing body FIFA's decision to award the World Cup to the Gulf state.

Zwanziger is a former FIFA executive committee member and ex-president of the German football federation.

Zwanziger reacted calmly to the legal action, telling the FAZ the step was another misjudgement by Qatar.
