Al Ahli have agreed a fee for the signing of Brazilian striker Luiz Adriano from Ukraine’s Shakhtar Donetsk.
Club president Abdullah Saeed Al Naboodah said on social media late on Wednesday that the Dubai club would discuss personal terms and give the 28-year-old a medical in the coming days.
Al Ahli have already allowed Luis Jimenez to join cross-city neighbours Al Nasr, while retaining South Korean Kwon Kyung-won and Brazilians Everton Ribeiro and the injured Ciel. Former Liverpool player Oussama Assaidi seems set for the exit.
Born in Porto Alegre, Adriano began his career at hometown club Internacional before joining Shakhtar in 2007 for 3 million euros.
Since then, he has been a vital part of the club’s success, becoming their all-time leading scorer in October last year, when he was also called up by the Brazilian national team.
Al Ahli have been consolidating their squad with an eye on the Asian Champions League quarter-finals, which they have reached for the first time in their history. They will meet Iran’s Naft Tehran in the last-eight in August.
Adriano was in fine form in the Uefa Champions League last season. Shakhtar finished second in their group, with Adriano equalling Lionel Messi’s record of five goals in a game and Cristiano Ronaldo’s mark of nine in the group stage. As a result he was named MVP of the group stage.
Adriano scored his five against Bate Borisov of Belarus. His first three goals took just 11 minutes, the third fastest ever in the competition, while he also scored three in a seven-minute span, the quickest ever, and his four first-half goals were also a record.
With his fourth and fifth strikes of the same match, Adriano overcame Andriy Vorobey to become Shakhtar’s all-time leading scorer with 117 goals.
Meanwhile, after signing up Australia star Mark Milligan, Bani Yas are now showing an interest in NAC Breda’s Dutch-Moroccan winger Adnane Tighadouini.
It is believed that coach Luis Garcia is keen on getting the deal done as Tighadouini can fit into any position up front. Italian club Udinese have also shown interest in the 22-year-old, but the Abu Dhabi club have apparently made a better offer.
Tighadouini played for Morocco in the 2011 CAF U-23 Championship.
Bani Yas’ Spanish defender Angel Dealbert is believed to be on his way out. The 32-year-old will either be sold or loaned out as soon as the Milligan deal is inked.
Al Nasr are expected to confirm the signing of Brazilian midfielder Marquinho from AS Roma this week, according to reports.
The Blue Wave have agreed a fee with the Italian club and will now look to complete personal terms and a medical for the 28-year-old former Fluminense player, who scored nine goals in 26 appearances while on loan to Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad last season.
“We’re just waiting for some information from Roma and then we’ll close the deal,” an Al Nasr official told media. “We already have approval from the Italian club to start the negotiations.
“He’s an excellent player, a very exciting signing and we’ll be lucky to have him. He is versatile — can play on the left or as a second striker — so it’s a good deal. When everything is done we’ll announce it officially.”
Marquinho will replace Spanish winger Pablo Hernandez, who spent last season on loan at Al Maktoum Stadium from Qatar’s Al Arabi.
