Arsenal vs Chelsea: Projected Capital One Cup lineup

Published October 29th, 2013 - 12:59 GMT

Arsenal continued their strong English Premier League form with another win over the weekend as they dispatched Crystal Palace with relative ease.

Arsene Wenger knows that a London Derby against Chelsea is a tough prospect in the League Cup as both sides are at the top of the EPL table with the Gunners only two points ahead of the second placed Blues.

The defensive line could see several changes with Thomas Vermaelen likely to come in for Laurent Koscielny and both Nacho Monreal and Carl Jenkinson with chances of replacing Kieran Gibbs and Bacary Sagna.

Jack Wilshere and Serge Gnabry could come in as Wenger again may look at a few changes as he also has a weekend match against Liverpool weighing on the back of his mind as he prepares for his Capital One Cup fixture.

Olivier Giroud is likely to remain in the first team despite Nicklas Bendtner having seen regular cup action this season as the Frenchman's form could be crucial against a strong Chelsea side. If Wenger thinks Giroud does deserve a rest, Bendtner will likely be called upon.

In the midfield, Wenger may look to rotate as his core of Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil have been played a lot in recent weeks. Tomas Rosicky could get a chance to feature for the Gunners while German youngster Thomas Eisfeld, who scored in the last round against West Bromwich Albion, could get the nod as well. Santi Cazorla could round out the midfield trio as he continues his return to full match fitness.

Chelsea's trip to the Emirates on Tuesday is likely to be one of the toughest matches of their young season so far.
