Outgoing FIFA president Sepp Blatter has reportedly blamed the continental confederations, rather than the football's world governing body, for the corruption scandal that has engulfed the game.

Blatter has maintained that the governing body could not be held responsible for the actions of the individuals from continental federations and therefore, FIFA could not be blamed.

Blatter said that there was no wangling under the direct influence of FIFA and its influence over contracts concluded by the confederations was practically zero, Sport24 reported.

He insisted that it is impossible to stamp out robbery and murder, even with a functioning court's system down to community level, adding that football is not better than society.

FIFA's image has been hampered after 14 sports marketing executives and football officials, including several from Zurich-based FIFA, were indicted by the United States in late May over corruption charges.
