A British worker has died at the 2022 World Cup’s Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, where health and safety breaches have come under intense scrutiny.
Tournament organisers did not name the 40-year-old man or describe the incident.
Qatar has previously announced the death of four stadium workers, with one fatality the result of a work-related accident.
Controversy has dogged the Gulf state since Fifa awarded the World Cup in 2010. Several hundred workers are said to have died after working long hours in soaring temperatures. Organisers are also relying on expertise from Europeans to oversee construction.
A Qatari World Cup spokesman said: ‘The next of kin has been informed. An immediate investigation into this fatality is underway and details will be released in due course.’
