FIFA's embattled president Sepp Blatter will not be attending the Women's World Cup final in Vancouver on Sunday citing 'personal reasons'.

The 79-year-old, who was re-elected FIFA president at the body's meeting in Zurich, had earlier planned to attend the event.

Blatter's lawyer Richard Cullen confirmed that FIFA senior vice-president Issa Hayatou would attend the match instead, the BBC reported.

Blatter had earlier announced that he would step down as president of FIFA amidst the corruption scandal engulfing the sport's governing body.

However, last week he insisted that he had not resigned from his position and was believed to be considering re-election.

Meanwhile, Swiss authorities and the United States have launched separate criminal proceedings into FIFA's awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

The USA, who reached their fourth tournament final, will now square off either against England or Japan in the final in Vancouver. (ANI)
